Cable Car Square
Cable Car Square welcomes one and all to the 29th Annual Tri-State’s Largest Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, Oct. 5. The day is full of family-friendly fun and games, live music, and of course chili! The cook-off starts at 10 a.m. with the kids’ corner, food, and beverages. The public tasting starts at 1 p.m. and is only $5. Part of this whole endeavor is based around a sanctioned CASI chili cooking competition. There is also a salsa competition! Non-chili food offerings will be available from places like Sugar Ray’s BBQ, Magoo’s Pizza, Sweet Memories Ice Cream Shop, and more. And there will be live music going during the tasting by The Lonely Goats. Their brand of eclectic rock, funk, jazz, zydeco, blues, gypsy, and just about everything else is the perfect pairing for the kind of palate that enjoys variety in their chili and their music. They’re also the band of 365’s own Mike Ironside whom we lost to cancer last month. So it will be wonderful having them playing outside the office with a little Mikey magic in the air. Kids’ games are always a big part of this extremely family-centered event. Look for participation games where kids win prizes, paint pumpkins, and enjoy time with inflatables. Proceeds benefit Hills & Dales, a local human services organization that provides care for youth with severe and profound mental and physical disabilities. 4th and Bluff St.
